Initial Workshop with Choreographer
In this initial workshop with the choreographer I tried to focus on my timing and my pace and energy. I was also focusing on my movement memory, because when I learn choreography, there's high chances that I can forget it after practising it a couple of times. This is important so that an audience can be interested in my movements and believe my characterisation. At (0:21-0:23) you can see that I'm out of time with the rest of the group, and also looking the wrong way. To improve on this I need to make sure that I properly learn the choreography, and focus more on my timing. My body language needs to suit the character, which should be a ten year old student in primary school. I tried to initially understand this character by focusing on what they're talking about, and rebelling. Running in at (0:02 - 0:007) I need to have more energy and my facial expressions need to be more poignant and resemble a rebelling 10 year old. Next rehearsal I want to focus on my characterisation and make sure that my timing is on point with the rest of my peers.
Before we started rehearsing, we warmed up as a group. Warming up is important in dance because it helps us not to strain, pull or injure muscles. We focused on the rotation of our joints, raising our arms and circling them around. This helps to get the blood flow towards our structures around the joints which helps protect them from injury. For our lower body, we kicked our legs up in time to music, first by pulling our knees up towards our chest, and then extending the leg out afterwards. This helps to prevent acute injuries, such as strains; another warm up that helps this is circling the ankles.
